About

Ben is a theatremaker, working in theatre and opera. He is a Junior Associate at the King's Head Theatre and was a Trainee Resident Director at the theatre 2017-18. He was long-listed for the 2019 Peter Hall Emerging Artist Fellowship.

Ben has worked at venues around the UK including The Garrick Theatre, Riverside Studios, The Hope Mill Theatre, The Other Palace, Theatre Royal Plymouth, The Royal College of Music, Southwark Playhouse and the King's Head Theatre. He has also directed performances at the Tate Modern.

He was the Festival Director and Research Lead for KHT50: Barstools to Broadway. This one week festival saw the King’s Head Theatre reviving six shows from its archives, including first revivals of work by Bryony Lavery, Victoria Wood and Stephen Jeffreys. Another first revival, Timberlake Wertenbaker’s The Third was performed at the V&A Museum at an evening celebrating the theatre and the work of female playwrights on the fringe.

Ben has also worked in the galleries sector for many years. Most recently at Van Gogh House, Stockwell, where he was the Head of Volunteers and Duty Manager: a role which included responsibility for the guided tour of the house and its environs (pictured).

He has recently started a PhD at the University of Cambridge, focussing on Ormesby Hall in Middlesbrough and the traditions of left-wing theatre in the Teesside area, 1920- 1960. You can read more about that here.
